Meet the McDonnells!
We welcome Burt and Sandy McDonnell to our team at Haiti Healthcare Advocates!
"Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him and He will make your paths straight."
Having first arrived in Dessalines, Haiti in January of 2012 on a construction work team as have so many over the years, Burt and Sandy come to us from rural Ontario, Canada. Burt and Sandy have felt their calling to assist in the process to provide healthcare to over 200,000 from a small village in the foothills of the Artibonite Valley and have made themselves available for much needed assistance in both construction management and financial accounting and administration for the hospital program.
Participating on a short term mission team after the devastating earthquake of 2012, they have felt the calling of a higher purpose to their lives and returned in September of the same year to serve in the areas of oversight of the building additions to the hospital and financial accounting/administration.
Three years later, Sandy and Burt are actively participating in daily activities, spending 8 months of the year working in both construction oversight/management as well as daily financial accounting to assure that every gift pledged to the program is utilized in the most effective and efficient means possible.
The Mcdonnells will tell you that while their lives have changed dramatically, their internal sense of purpose has been fulfilled at this point in their lives. Routine language skills continue to challenge as they work daily in and around their Haitian family - Haitian Creole remains relatively "unknown" to the world outside of the island shared by Haiti and the Dominican Republic.
